Description

Our 2012 Mavrud wine is made from a type of Indigenous Bulgarian grape variety planted since ancient times and yet only covers less than 1% of the vineyard area in Bulgaria. Known to produce fairly full-bodied wines with tremendous longevity that boast red berry and raspberry flavours. It used to produce thick sweet wines in the style of Malaga due to its high natural acidity and complex palate. Despite being rather plain when young similar to Sangiovese, it blossoms when barrel-aged and matured.  This is one of the winery’s flagships and has matured 12 months in French oak barrels. Open at least 30 mins before consumption and serve at about 16-18C. Ideal with red meat, game and strong matured cheeses.

An ancient local grape from the heart of Mavrud country on the outskirts of Ruben.  A flagship wine as Maximinus Thrax loved it ‘a wine for Kings’. Maximinus Thrax was a Roman Emporer between 235 and 238 AD.

2012 Mavrud, Thracian Lowlands, Dry Red Wine, Thracia, Ready, but can keep!  75cl, 13% abv.
